Summer Fireworks & Music! #Ottawa

Yesterday was another hot sticky day in Ottawa, just the way I like it.  The only “cloud” looming over the day was the threat of thunderstorms and tornadoes.  Fortunately, all we saw were three rain showers that did little to dampen the spirits of thousands of people downtown to enjoy all the great Canada Day activities.

My day started at the Jazz Festival Laurier Stage with a sweet set by Sweet Alibi.  This Winnipeg band put on a great show of harmonious Folk with a hint of pop.  Next up was a nice dinner on Zoes Patio at Chateau Laurier, which turned out ideal for two reasons – a nice Salmon Dinner and a great refuge for the downpour that hit as I was enjoying my meal.  From there, it was back to Jazz Festival Main stage for another great show, this time by Current Swell, an indie rock band from Victoria.  The closing act of the night was Paper Lions from PEI at Major’s Hill Park.  As expected, they put on a great 90 minute show (I saw them a couple of years ago at Westfest), which led into a fantastic 15 minute fireworks show.

I can’t think of any better way of spending Canada Day than enjoying the hot summer weather, seeing great Canadian Bands, splurging on a nice dinner and closing the night with some great fireworks.  A great day indeed.

Next up… Bluesfest starting with a bang on Thursday.
