Ottawa Jazz Festival 2017
While there are still two days left in this years festival, my final visit was last night as I’ll be attending Canada Day celebrations in other parts of Ottawa for the next two days. This year was another fantastic lineup of headliners and I enjoyed every show I saw even during the worst of the downpours on Thursday night.
Kenny Rogers was a great walk down memory lane. Joss Stone continues to amaze me with her beautiful and powerful voice. Mavis Staples brought joy, happiness, inspiration and some positive vibrations to a packed theatre of adoring fans. The PepTides brought us their upbeat musical show filled with amazing harmonies, theatrical choreography and colourful visuals. Caravan Palace put on the best Electro-swing dance party of the festival. Rory Block took us back through the history of the Blues with a great acoustic set. Ronnie Earl & The Broadcasters gave a rousing performance to the rain-soaked die-hard fans. The Legendary Downchild Blues Band closed out a very wet Thursday night with a performance that lived up to their Legendary status. Bixiga 70 fired up the audience with their mix of South American dance rhythms and Charles Bradley & His Extraordinaires kept the groove going with their high energy infused soul.
All in all, the past week has been an amazing mix of shows spanning a wide range of musical genres. Despite the wet weather and constant threat of thunderstorms, I’m still very glad I made it to every one of these shows and am already looking forward to next years edition of the festival. Bravo to the organizers for yet another great festival!
